just a warning ...

Hi all,
Just wanted to warn you all that if you gang log in from a puter other than your own (eg. school, library, etc.) make sure you log out of the zone after you have finished using it. In my experience we get automatically logged out after a certain time anyway but this is not consistent. We had a user (I will not mention names for fear of putting the unwanted spotlight) but they had all these postings on the grafiti boards that weren't their's but under their name. And after considering that someone may have hacked into her account, we discovered that some random person was having fun under their username, (due to the IP addresses changing when it normally doesn't), so just warning you guys .. Lol

Yeah and it's not funny either, that's very serious. Thats one reason why I like the zone bbs. After a ammount of time you'll get logged out automatically. But say I'm at a friend's house on the net via my pacmate or on the school system then I def. log out of everything. Heck even change my password every once in a while. I feel bad for whomever this happened to.

Yup! Everybody log out, thanks for posting this, WdFweak! Good good lesson to be learned here.

Oh dam... I feel bad for this person. Now that we've put this up and now that I've looked at it, I won't ever be idle for 5 minutes anymore. Even if I have to do something really short, I'll just have to log out and log back in when I'm done. That's all to it.

Why, Cmitch, are you on here at work? Because if you're on at home, no one should do anything, right? I mean, my sister can be quite scary sometimes but I know she'd never hack into my account. Rotfl!

Yup if you're at home then there shouldn't be a problem. Maybe at work if a supervisor or coworker wants to see the site then they should sign up for account of t heir own. But if you're at the library or on campus where there's a computer open for anyone's use then yeah log out when you're done. Heck I don't leave AIM or MSN Messenger on while I'm away from my desktop in the library to go use the ladies room. One time my friend Seth walked away to help someone in the library and someone else came onto his account and tried to ban me from going back onto Aim by trying to raise my warning percentage to 100 which the perpatrator only went to 50.

Also, something else that I have noticed that is worth mentioning. When closing a conversation with private notes, it is best to not throw anything personal on those ending private messages. This is because if, when you move to that user name in the combo box, type the message, and then hit send, if that person has logged out between the time u started to send the quick note and the time u hit the send button, that quicknote will be sent to all users since the user u intended the message to go to is no longer available.

That shouldn't happen. If it does, it's a definite bug.

That's scary, that private QN thing! I sure hope that's a Bug heehhee!

me too!

that private thing wouldn't apply any more since now it logs all quicknotes, and private ones will still go to the person's space even if they are off the zone.

Oh I thought you mean when I'm at home, to log out when I'm done, because often times I would go to do something, and still be logged in. Whew! Now I don't have to be worried unless I go somewhere where I'm on a different computer than my own.

I notice that when my computer freezes and I log back on, I get this error message saying you are logged on a different computer or someone has hacked into your account. It's very frustrating to me because I often think someone's logging in my account.

Yeah and it's driving me up the walls. I reported it to J one time, he said he would fix it and somehow he did but the problem unfortunately came back.

Post 21 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Tuesday, 25-Jan-2005 16:27:28

It's the same bug that Wonderwoman mentioned in another thread.
